Leader election in distributed system provides maintenance, consistency, control and fault detection. However, the election process is prone to instabilities, failures, and generally consumes a lot of control message exchange. This paper presents an election protocol that reduces the control message exchange, tolerating failures and instabilities. For future work, the protocol will be implemented and evaluated through simulations.
