The male predominance in courses and jobs in the Information
Technology area has been notorious for many years. But, only now, with the
pursuit of gender equality in different segments supported by large companies,
it has been questioned and even tackled. Considering the particular reality of
the city Rio Tinto located in Paraíba’s North Coast, it becomes important to
understand the social and cultural aspects which influence the entry and
remaining of female students and workers in technological careers, as well to
promote actions that can contribute to equality.
