ABSTRACT
Approximately 80 % of people with some form of physical, mental,
or intellectual disability live in developing countries. These same
countries have shown significant growth in the availability of the
internet. Such facts reveal good possibilities regarding access to
emotional support and experiences exchange among people with
disabilities through social media. However, hate speech and derogatory
comments about these people can be a recurring problem on
these platforms. In order to identify these posts, this article features
a classifier developed using Twitter posts related to disabilities.
The results show that the tool developed is promising in detecting
offensive and pejorative comments on this topic, which can be used
in content management systems.
