ABSTRACT
In this paper, we present a hybrid algorithm for electrical fault location
based on the traveling wave theory. The temporal location of
fault points and the first reflected waves has been determined with
continuous wavelet transforms (CWT) and concepts of extreme
values, respectively. The analyzed signals were created by the software
ATPDraw considering parameters of a real high voltage line
situated between the cities of Pelotas and Candiota, both in the
state of Rio Grande do Sul. Phase-to-ground faults for different
transmission line lengths, incidence angles, and fault resistances
have been analyzed. The results showed the efficiency of this type
of algorithm, exhibiting low relative errors, mainly for nonzero
incident angles.
