Volunteered geographic information - VGI has gained visibility
due to the variety of applications that can benefit from its use, including
environmental monitoring, tourism, security, biodiversity,
agriculture, among others. Although widespread, there is a lack
in the literature on technical details of mobile VGI applications.
The objective of this work was to demonstrate the development of
a mobile VGI application, focusing on collection and persistence
of this data type, including digital media. For this, an APP was
developed. MySQL Spatial and MongoDB databases were evaluated
for read and write latency. The work details the development of the
APP, listing the requirements, justifying the choices and illustrating
code; and presents the results of the performance tests, demonstrating
that for small VGI applications, MySQL Spatial can be a good
alternative as a persistence mechanism.
