Althoughwomen’s participation in the Information Technology (IT)
market has increased in recent decades, it remains a predominantly
male area. One of the factors in this difference is in socio-cultural
issues where the social construction of gender roles is limiting
women’s insertion and permanence in this sector. This work aims to
make a diagnosis about the presence of women in higher education
courses and in the IT labor market in the state of Pará. The main
sources of data used were the governmental public databases of
the General Register of Employees and Unemployed (CAGED),
the Census of Higher Education, made available (INEP) and the
National Household Survey (PNAD). The analyzed data indicated
that in the state of Pará, we have the male predominance on the
sector either on the superior courses as on the work market and
wage inequalities. Despite the increase in the entry of women in
academic-scientific careers, in the IT labor market.
