The planning of electrical distribution systems is essential and a
challenge for Electric Power Distribution Companies along with
the need to improve the quality of the energy distribution service.
As presented in the recent literature, the use of switches and
protection devices can improve the quality of the electricity
distribution service and, thus, system reliability indices. The main
objective of this work is to propose a model to optimally allocate
reclosers in distribution feeders with a Multi-Objective Genetic
Algorithm (MOGA) that is modeled, validated by exhaustive
search, when possible, due to computational limitation, proving its
effectiveness. Among the possibilities, the Pareto Multi-objective
Optimization Genetic Algorithm (PMOGA) was chosen for this
work. Then, the developed methodology was applied in real feeders
with and without Distributed Generation. Finally, it is concluded
that the proposed model for the allocation of reclosers is adequate
to solve the problem and positively affects the reliability and can
be used in most of the current electricity distribution networks.
