ABSTRACT
In this work, a prototype for a low-cost application was developed
aiming to assist vision impaired individuals. The prototype is a
wearable device, equipped with a Raspberry Pi for image processing
of the frames captured from a camera strapped to the user’s
chest. The feedback is provided by means of vibration motors, attached
to an armband, allowing to distinguish obstacles according
to its proximity. The obtained preliminary results demonstrated the
feasibility of the proposed approach, collaborating with a better
mobility process with low-cost setups to assist the detection of
obstacles.
