ABSTRACT
The present study investigated scientific production at the State University of Maringá (UEM), based on the gender of its authors. UEM stands out in scientific research with the presence of women in Brazil and South America, with 53.3% of scientific article authorships featuring female participation, according to the 2023 Leiden Ranking. This prominence contrasts with the prevailing gender inequality in academia in general, as the most recent data from UNESCO, published in 2024, reports that the proportion of women in the field of academic research totals worldwide. This work was motivated by this contrast and analyzed the female presence in UEM’s publications and their representation in productivity grants across fields of knowledge. To this end, the methodology of the Leiden Ranking was reproduced to gather metadata of research produced by the institution during the period considered by the 2023 Leiden Ranking and compare it with data on CNPq productivity grants, categorized by gender and field of knowledge. The data obtained in this study are consistent with the findings of the Leiden Ranking, as 58.8% of the authorships in the considered publications are female. On other hand, only 35.8% of women at UEM held productivity grants during the analyzed period, highlighting a significant gender disparity in scientific production at UEM.
