Abstract
Stroke, or Cerebrovascular Accident, affects thousands of individuals
annually and remains a leading cause of death in Brazil. Among
survivors, many experience lasting sequelae, such as hemianopsia—
a partial loss of the visual field. The standard treatment for this
condition typically involves visual field compensation exercises,
which, while effective, are often repetitive and demotivating for
patients. To address these challenges, we developed AeroVR, an
innovative game designed to support patient rehabilitation. AeroVR
combines virtual reality technology, which facilitates the stimulation
of a broader visual field, with the principles of serious games
to enhance patient engagement and adherence to therapy. Developed
iteratively in partnership with the Occupational Therapy
School-Clinic, the game is highly customizable, ensuring it can
cater to a diverse range of patients. By merging advanced technology
with user-centered design, AeroVR offers a promising solution
for improving the effectiveness and accessibility of hemianopia
rehabilitation.
