This study analyzed failure rates in computer science courses within the Computing Engineering program at CEFET-MG campus Leopoldina, from the first semester of 2018 (2018.1) to the second semester of 2022 (2022.2). Using institutional reports, we focused on Logic and Fundamentals of Computing, Programming I, and Programming Lab. Failure rates ranged from 18.51% to 21.98%, linked primarily to students’ lack of preparation in programming logic, predominantly theoretical teaching methods, and insufficient academic support. Through this analysis, we aim to propose actionable strategies to address these challenges and improve academic outcomes in these courses.
