This article reports on the implementation of an introductory competitive programming workshop focused on the Brazilian Computer Science Olympiad (OBI). The action was aimed at Software Engineering freshmen and used active methodologies such as PBL and CBL. The proposal aimed to stimulate computational thinking and the motivation of students to participate in competitions. The workshop was short in duration, with practical activities and a competitive simulation. Data were collected through questionnaires and revealed high engagement. Students highlighted gains in learning, confidence and desire to continue. The workshop had a positive impact, proving to be effective in introducing the topic, even with its limited duration, which was pointed out as one of the limitations.
