This work aims to make a comparison of cost/benefit ratio between a traditional desktop computers (HP Compaq 6005 Pro Microtower computer) cluster and a low-power consumption devices cluster, the Raspberry Pi Model B. To test them, algorithms will be implemented to solve P and NP-Hard class problems in order to collect the necessary data for speedup calculation, as well as Linpack benchmark application. With the collected data from both clusters it’s possible to estimate the cost/benefit generated and their applicability. For the parallelization of algorithms and the cluster control, MPI library and Linux based operation system will be used.
