Human capital encompasses the set of skills, capacities and knowledge of each worker, being characterized as an important element for promoting innovation capacity and crating sustainable competitive advantages, especially in knowledge-intensive organizations such as information technology companies. Thus, corporations need to constantly monitor their real stocks of human capital, including evaluating their obsolescence. Based on these perspectives, this study characterizes the obsolescence and aspects related to the acquisition of human capital in the context of information technology companies. For this, a qualitative and quantitative study was developed with companies linked to the Association of Internet Service and Information Providers (INTERNETSUL). As main results, it was identified that the professionals with training at technical or higher level present lower levels of obsolescence of human capital. In addition, as predominant ways of reducing the depreciation of skills, higher education and specific courses in the area were highlighted. Finally, in relation to the profile of the professionals, it was identified that self-learning is predominant among male workers, whereas professionals with higher levels of education and length of experience spend more time on learning activities at work.
