THE INTERNET AND ITS IMPACTS ON BACK-OFFICE ACTIVITIES: THE USE OF THE INTERNET BY INDUSTRIAL COMPANIES IN BRAZIL

    Published date: 11/08/2008
This article describes a case study on the use of the Internet and other information technologies (IT) by Brazilian industrial companies. Special emphasis is given to project and production tasks and the possibility of virtualizing activities and business processes. The author obtained information from 665 companies in the State of São Paulo, which were questioned about the impact of the Internet on the way they carried out their business. The data were collected through an electronic questionnaire, which was sent to the companies in the form of an annex to an e-mail message. The responses were drawn up in the form of tables and analyzed quantitatively, to help understand the current scenario and identify trends for the coming years that could be extended to Brazilian manufacturing companies in general.
