DYNAMIC CAPACITY TO “ORCHESTRATE INNOVATION NETWORKS” IN THE OPEN INNOVATION MODEL

This theoretical essay investigates content related to resource orchestration. By incorporating the notion of complementary of resources that extend beyond the company boundaries, the "orchestration of innovation networks" is presented as a dynamic capacity to ensure management action on unshared and shared resources in a network in the model of open innovation. It presents some proposals based on the new insights gained, which can serve as a starting point for formulating research questions and problems to be investigated. In summary, the study provides (a) an integrated view of the literature in the field of strategy on the resource-based view and dynamic capabilities, and (b) extends the discussion of resource portfolio management beyond the company limits toward an understanding of resource orchestration (resource management and orchestration of assets), promoting a discussion of the dynamic capabilities in complementary fields of research, in this case, open innovation. This study will give managers of innovation networks more insight into management actions in the innovation network and enable companies to improve their performance and gain competitive advantage.
