RISKS OF ILLNESS IN THE WORK OF PHYSICAL THERAPISTS: A PSYCHODYNAMIC APPROACH
Published date: 29/09/2016
Based on the concepts of Psychodynamic of Work (POW), this paper analyses the risks of illness among physical therapists who works in organizations in the metropolitan area of Belo Horizonte. Through a multiple case study, the research was developed using quantitative and descriptive methods. A semi-structured interview was applied, based on a Work and Risk of Illness Inventory (ITRA) developed by Mendes & Ferreira (2007). The gathered data were analyzed using the technique of Core Analysis, based on the Content Analysis of Bardin (2004). The results suggest that physical therapists are susceptible to inconsistencies in the work context, which leads to suffering that could pose risks to health. Some pathological situations have already been observed, revealing that defensive strategies are ineffective, leaving physical therapists more susceptible to illness. A fragility was observed in the collective aspect, which could prejudice their professional affirmation and experiences of pleasure. It is therefore recommended that policies of integration and valorization of this professional be adopted, whether in the scope of organizations or in the social field.
