DIMENSIONS OF EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN: AUTONOMY OR RELIANCE

This study aims to understand the dimensions of empowerment among women entrepreneurs in the municipality of Forquilhinha, Santa Catarina. Entrepreneurship and women's empowerment are the central themes theoretically contextualized in this work. This research is characterized as descriptive and qualitative, with non-probability sampling by accessibility. The data collection technique was a qualitative interview with a semistructured script, prepared based on the dimensions of empowerment aligned with the entrepreneurial initiative to open their own
business, applied to 15 women owners of retail stores. The results showed that entrepreneurship provided an opportunity for economic empowerment for the interviewees, based on statements that focused on the expansion of income, financial independence, and self-worth. In the psychological, educational, political and Family dimensions, the interviewees demonstrated a degree of dependence on others, and insecurity in decision-making and the direction of the business.
