Published date: 29/12/2020
According to the strategic planning of companies, the manager is fundamental in the decision-making process, particularly in the process of correct internationalization aimed at the best strategies, and that efficiently guarantees its competitiveness. This teaching case focuses on the view of Lopez, a visionary manager at the helm of Agricola Tierra Nova, in Santa Fé, Paraguai, who saw his business prosper to the point that he considered opening a subsidiary in Brazil. For this purpose, and in order to gain a broad overview of the current internal scenario and some external factors, a strategic planning consultancy firm was hired to carry out a SWOT analysis. Based on the results of the analyses, Lopez is left with a dilemma about the future of the company, as any wrong decision could jeopardize all that he has achieved so far. Should Lopez believe in his management skills and take a gamble by expanding the company, or should he keep things as they are? Based on the SWOT analysis, and on the external factors, particularly the political and economic scenarios in Brazil, should he open a subsidiary in Brazil, or review the expansion strategies? These are some of the questions that Lopez will face.
