    AFTER THE BONANZA CAME THE ABYSS. NOW WHAT?

    This study case tells the real story of a Portuguese manufacturer of satellite dishes, which opened a branch in Brazil in 2009 under a contract with one of the pay TV operators. After four years of bonanza, in which the company, Famaval, saw considerable growth, it then faced various problems that placed in question the continuity of its operations in the Brazilian market. In 2013, under the influence of competitive forces, came the abyss. The company was faced with a dilemma, and had to adopt its strategies in order to ensure a return to positive results in the following year. The purpose of this case study is to prompt discussion on topics related to strategic management and business strategies, by confronting students with issues of strategic and market decision making. The use of this case is recommended for the Strategic Management disciplines of undergraduate courses, with emphasis on the competitive forces that shape the company’s strategy.
