Objective: This study aims to explore the relationship between ESG practices and organizational resilience in financial cooperatives.
Design/methodology/approach: Using a qualitative approach, this documentary research examines the annual sustainability and social responsibility reports published by the Sicredi and Unicred cooperatives between 2015 and 2021, through a thematic analysis.
Results: Both cooperatives studied sought to demonstrate their commitment to ESG, whether through proactive practices or compliance with regulations or resolutions. The analysis conducted also highlighted the introduction of innovations and improved performance, even during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis.
Implications: The results suggest that ESG practices are related to the organizational resilience of credit cooperatives in terms of performance and innovation.
Limitations: Although a positive influence between ESG practices and the organizational resilience of credit cooperatives is suggested, the relationship has not been tested, which opens avenues for future research.
Originality/value: In a scenario marked by crises, questions arise about the interaction between ESG practices and the resilience of organizations. At the same time, credit cooperatives are gaining more and more space and relevance in the national financial system, adhering to the social principle of supporting the community where they operate.
