It can be found in the literature an evolution from the functional-type of organizational structure from the more recent network-type. In this sense, the following dimensions were used in the analysis: a) the drivers, that is strategy, environment, technology and culture variables; b) the components, which take into account aspects of departmentalization, staff activities, managerial scope, communication and decision-making capability. A single, qualitative and exploratory case study in a successful Mexican conglomerate: CEMEX (Cementos Mexicanos S.A. de C.V.), a worldwide leader in cement production. Results showed a positive trend in applying modern organizational structure types, which implies a profound evolution of the characteristics of organizational design and dynamics.
