BIG DATA AND KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT: DEFINITIONS AND PROPOSALS FOR FURTHER RESEARCH

    Published date: 24/02/2017
The aim of this article is to analyze research relating to Big Data (BD) and Knowledge Management (KM). Organizations have been seeking new ways to analyze and process the large volume of unstructured data that cannot be analyzed by traditional means, in order to generate information and knowledge. With this aim, we conducted a systematic literature review of articles published in journals and scientific conferences, using the databases EBSCOhost and Web of Science. A total of 85 articles were identified. The results were presented in two parts; the first gives a summary of the research data, highlighting the main keywords and the number of publications by data sources, among others, and the second is based on analysis of content. This analysis highlighted the need for education and training of people to analyze Big Data and manage knowledge. Knowledge Management needs to develop tools for the Big Data assets. A trend was identified of studies that focus on the area of health, and a predominant use of methodologies of Design Science and experiments. As suggestions for further research, we proposed studies on investment in training, on the development of data scientists, and on individual behavior in the context of BD.
