    Published date: 08/11/2022

Monitoring the impacts of the tourism production chain on destinations is as a challenge to the responsible agents for planning and managing the activity, observatories are mediators of this process. In 2020, given the pandemic scenario caused by SarsCov2 (Covid-19), this importance was evident with the application of a survey in the national territory, coordinated by the Brazilian Network of Observatories which, as a result, created a working group to propose the harmonization of a statistical database of tourism in Brazil. With this context, the objective of the article is to analyze the trajectory taken in the planning and implementation of the Tourism Observatory of the State University of Amazonas in partnership with institutions that work in the planning, ordering, and operationalization of tourist activities in Amazonas. The methodology is characterized as a case study with a qualitative, descriptive approach and based the analysis in the literature on the function and purpose of observatories. As a result, it describes the process of creation of the Tourism Observatory of the UEA, under the coordination of a university that produces content that, available on a web platform with public and free access, contributes to the formation of a Tourism Information System, for the Amazon destination.
