Ethics and Misconduct Policy, Errata, and Retraction

In order to ensure an editorial policy committed to ethical publication criteria that encourage the identification of plagiarism, misconduct, fraud, possible ethical violations, and the opening of processes, we recommend that authors follow the steps below before submitting texts to the journal:

  • Visit the COPE website, which contains information on research ethics for authors and editors.
  • Explicitly reference data acquired, analyzed, or interpreted from other publications.
  • Cite any intellectual content from other authors.
  • Indicate as authors only those who have actively and substantially participated in all phases of the research and article writing.
  • Do not omit from the list of authors any researcher fully involved in the research and writing of the article.
  • Include all authors in the article's authorship criteria.

After submission, the Editors may take the following steps when they deem it appropriate:

  • Request formal explanations regarding the participation of authors who subscribe to the text.
  • Request formal explanations regarding any doubts, problems, and/or unclear points arising from the manuscript's similarity assessment.

Based on the results and any explanations received, it will be up to the Editors, and if necessary, the Editorial Board, to decide on procedures regarding the manuscript.

After submission and before the peer review process, all articles are subjected to the CopySpider similarity verification system.

If necessary, for the publication of errata and retractions, TVA will follow the guidelines of the:

Guide for the registration and publication of Errata: https://wp.scielo.org/wp-content/uploads/guia_errata.pdf

Guide for the registration and publication of Retraction: https://wp.scielo.org/wp-content/uploads/guia_retratacao.pdf

Conflict of Interest Policy

Conflicts of interest must be disclosed not only by the authors but also by all individuals involved in the editorial process of a manuscript.

Editors must avoid making decisions on manuscripts that conflict with their own interests, such as those submitted by authors from their department or research collaborators.

Considering the possibility of conflicts of interest, the journal does not publish articles authored by its own editors or section editors.

If section editors have a conflict of interest, they must delegate decision-making to other editors.

Authors must explicitly and individually declare to the editor (available on the submission page) any potential financial, direct and/or indirect, non-financial conflicts of interest, etc., as well as any conflicts of interest with ad hoc reviewers, if applicable, at the time of article submission and/or during the evaluation process. At the time of submission, the responsible author must fill out and sign the Conflict of Interest Declaration.

Reviewers must consider any type of conflict of interest before evaluating the manuscript. Work relationships with the author should be considered (e.g., participating or having participated in a research project; maintaining or having maintained scientific collaboration with research groups; having a mentoring relationship with the author; having a financial interest in the project involved in the manuscript).

Upon accepting the manuscript for evaluation, the reviewer must declare any conflict of interest directly on the journal's page. If a conflict of interest is identified on the part of the reviewers, the Editor and/or Section Editors will forward the manuscript to another ad hoc reviewer.

Adoption of Similarity Checking Software

After submission on the platform, all articles undergo screening, which includes checking the items required in the "Submissions" section. Next, it will be verified whether the article is within the scope of the journal, and if so, the manuscript proceeds to the next stage of the editorial process.

This stage consists of submitting all articles to the CopySpider similarity checking system. Based on the report generated by the program, the textual content of the manuscript is analyzed to identify any indications of plagiarism in the text.

After this process, if a similarity index above the recommended threshold is detected, the article will not be included in the peer review process, and the authors will be notified.

Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in scientific writing

This policy pertains solely to the manuscript writing process and not to the use of Artificial Intelligence tool(s) for analysis and data extraction that compose the research process. Regarding writing, this technology should only be used to enhance textual language.

The use of this resource should be monitored by the authors, who must carefully oversee the results. Authors are responsible for the final content. A statement regarding the use of AI should appear at the end of the manuscript, ensuring transparency and trust between authors, readers, and the editorial body.

It is understood that authors and co-authors are those capable of maintaining the integrity of all parts of the manuscript, with the capacity to decide on the approval of the final version and to agree to its submission. Authors and co-authors are also responsible for adhering to the "publication ethics policy". Therefore, authors should not list AI and AI-assisted technologies as an author or co-author. Authorship implies responsibilities and tasks that can only be attributed and executed by human beings.

Sex and Gender Issues

The editorial team of TVA, as well as the authors publishing in the journal, should always adhere to the guidelines on Sex and Gender Equity in Research (SAGER). The SAGER guidelines comprise a set of guidelines that guide the reporting of information about sex and gender in the study design, data analysis, and in the results and interpretation of findings. Additionally, TVA observes the gender equity policy in the formation of its editorial board.

Committee of Ethics

When the research article involves procedures with human subjects or sensitive data under LGPD (Brazil's General Data Protection Law), authors must attach a statement of approval from the ethics committee of the institution responsible for approving the research.
