INTERNATIONALIZATION OR INTERNALIZATION?
Published date: 17/11/2017
The process of Internationalization, through import or export, is very complex due to the different laws that exist in each country, as well as the different cultures, economic factors such crises, and variations in exchange rates and taxes. Since 2007, having already completed ten years, the strategy of internationalization through the import of products has worked very well for Fernando’s Company. Export had always been relegated to second place, occurring only through opportunities from his customers, without investments or development on the part of the Company. However, from 2014, this scenario changed, and the strategy adopted can be put to the test. Fernando experienced a dilemma, and had to adopt strategies that would ensure the continued internationalization of his company, through investments in import or export, or internalization of production process. The objective of this teaching case is to prompt discussion on themes related to internationalization, such as import and export, the process of internationalization, economic theories of internationalization, strategic management, and entrepreneurial strategies. The application of this case is indicated for the disciplines in Internationalization and Strategic Management of graduate and postgraduate courses with emphasis on internationalization.
