    Published date: 30/10/2014
Books in children’s literature can be characterized by the strong presence of visuality, whether or not it is linked to words. This article presents some aspects of the history of children’s books through to modern children’s books, pointing out their materiality and other aspects, in order to discuss the visual dimension of works that are produced and that circulate among children. As an object of study, we have taken books for Children’s Education selected by the Programa Nacional Biblioteca da Escola (Brazilian National Program for School Libraries) – PNBE 2014, in order to carry out a descriptive and exploratory study. Through this article, we aim to contribute to thought on the constitution of these cultural objects, and to promote the practice of reading as a leisure activity. Finally, we present some feasible strategies that can be used with children at this teaching level.
