SOCIOENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY IN HEIS: DIAGNOSING TO KNOW AND ADVANCE
Published date: 07/08/2015
This article addresses the issue of curriculum greening in higher education institutions, and how the issue of environmental sustainability is treated in these institutions. It aims to present the results of a diagnosis of environmental sustainability at Universidade da Região de Joinville (Univille), located in Joinville in the northeast region of the State of Santa Catarina, Brazil. The study was conducted within the project Network of Sustainability Indicators in Latin American Universities - known as the RISU Project, developed between 2013 and 2014. The methodological approaches used to apply this research at Univille followed all the steps established by the RISU Project, applying a survey to those within the institution who perform duties involving questions of institutional sustainability. The data collected showed that although the sustainability policy at Univille is not yet institutionally defined and published, the university nevertheless focuses its actions in a certain way, and acts with a socio-environmental focus in the areas of education, research, extension and management.
