THE FEMINIST MOVEMENT IN BRAZIL AND LATIN AMERICA: REFLECTIONS ON EDUCATION AND WOMEN

    Published date: 25/04/2016

We have no doubt the road of feminism is a difficult, slow and narrow one. However, we do not doubt either that women have changed the destiny mapped for them by the patriarchal society. For Ivone Gebara (2000), there is a utopian path towards the politicization of the private sphere and for women to go further. This paper introduces the reader to the history of Feminist Movement, and rediscovers the context of some women, among so many others, who contributed to the feminist achievements of Latin America and Brazil and who, due to the patriarchal society in which we live, are totally ignored, without being given the pride of place they deserve. This article is based on three important concepts in Feminist Studies, namely: resistance, gender and patriarchate.
