DIALOGUE WITH PAULO FREIRE: a report of experience of training teachers to make critical use of technology in the practice of on line education

    Published date: 24/03/2009
This article originated in the research group “Educational paradigms and teacher training-PEFOP”, and focuses on the project “Pedagogical Practice of University Professors”. The researchers involved investigated the paradigm of complexity in on line teaching action with critical use of technology. The progressist approach proposed by Paulo Freire was a determining factor in the continuing education of professors working in the MATICE System – Learning Methodologies through Educational Information and Communication Technologies. The use of technology from a critical perspective sought to reveal a new attitude in on line teaching practice, discussed and analyzed, both individually and collectively, through an online Chat and Forum. In the formation of the teachers involved, individual readings and collective discussions were indicated, based on the texts of Paulo Freire, for both the face-to-face and the virtual meetings. Thus, the professorstudents taking part in the continuing education course “Promoting teaching practice in the MATICE System” which is held using the virtual learning environment EUREKA of the PUCPR, experienced a learning process that reflects the proposed organization for the MATICE graduate groups in which the professors taught. The results of the research enable us to affirm that the educational experiment carried out corresponds to premises of the paradigm of the complexity in that it surpasses traditional proposals for reproducing knowledge, developing in student-teachers an autonomous, critical, dialogical, interactive attitude of a the researcher.
