    Published date: 24/06/2025

Purpose – to present the results of the implementation of extension and research projects that sought to professionally train women in situations of social vulnerability in a municipality in the Agreste region of Bahia, through gastronomic entrepreneurship initiatives.

Design/methodology/approach – The research was carried out using the action research methodology. The extension action carried out a diagnosis of the target audience, a survey of demands, lecture series and training workshops in the area of entrepreneurship and gastronomy. The research action sought to analyze the reasons for the lack of engagement of women in gastronomic entrepreneurship proposals as an alternative for self-sustainability through exploratory research, analysis of primary and secondary data from the agency responsible for social development and poverty alleviation in the municipality, as well as interviews, questionnaires and guided activities.

Findings – The research concluded that there is a need for studies to search for more effective actions to reduce the social vulnerability of women through entrepreneurship and gastronomy in the municipality.

Research limitations/implications – the absence of previous studies on the topic of female social vulnerability and gastronomic entrepreneurship and limited access to the interviewees, which did not allow for a more in-depth analysis of the causes, in addition to the lack of engagement in gastronomic entrepreneurship initiatives.

Practical implications – to broaden the understanding of policies, programs and projects to combat female social vulnerability for more successful actions for this target audience.

Originality/value – This article contributes to the development of more effective actions to combat female social vulnerability through gastronomic entrepreneurship initiatives.
