The formation of new generations in the MST

    Published date: 24/09/2025

This article examines the conceptions of education and the child development within the Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra (Landless Workers’ Movement – MST). It draws on a documentary analysis of the collections Boletins da Educação, Cadernos de Educação, Fazendo Escola and Fazendo História, based on research conducted at the MST Agrarian Library. Among the 37 documents reviewed, the majority address the education of Sem Terrinha children through the lens of educational guidelines. Some also feature materials created specifically for children, including storytelling and testimonies from individuals involved in shaping the movement. Education is framed as an experience of belonging to the world and is understood as a collective responsibility. The work concludes that there is a commitment to teaching children to reflect and critically assess social events, introducing them into the public sphere and investing in the potential continuation of the movement’s struggle through future generations.
