This article argues that the inability to resynchronize norms and empirical reality in the face of the acceleration and accumulation of challenges engendered by platformization has led us to a situation in which the regulatory agenda has been overtaken by events, making it necessary to supplement it with the defense of digital sovereignty. An analysis of the recent global situation suggests the opening of a new technopolitical cycle, marked by the rise of Artificial Intelligence, the strengthening of the technopolitical alliance between the tech industry and anti-democratic forces, and an increasingly explicit repositioning of platforms as “total alternatives” to the democratic system. It offers an overview of the topic of digital sovereignty, mapping the spectrum of available possibilities and outlining milestones for the advancement of this agenda in the country.
