This research is an analysis of the discourses on play, playfulness, and recreation in the new National Curricular Framework – ANEP – Uruguay, one of the guiding documents of the educational reform in force since 2023.

The research work has been guided by the following questions: What place do play and recreation occupy in the respective programs? What is the relationship expressed between contents such as play and recreation in relation to the new educational paradigm centered on the development of specific competencies? And what are the contents described in relation to play and recreation that contribute to the fulfillment of the specific competencies assigned to the area of Physical Education? These questions organize a research work that aims to provide elements for a greater understanding of the relationship between play, playfulness, and body education as an object of study.
