    FEDERAL INSTITUTES OF EDUCATION, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY AS A LOCUS FOR TEACHER TRAINING IN BASIC EDUCATION, IN THE CONTEXT OF THE OFFER OF STRICTO SENSU POSTGRADUATE COURSES

    The main objective of this article is to analyze the practices of the Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology – Ifs, as teacher training locus in the context of the offer of stricto sensu postgraduate courses. A literature review and documentary research were carried out, seeking to analyze the training concepts of the teachers for IFs. Based on this information, a quantitative methodology was used, analyzing data on stricto sensu postgraduate courses in the teaching area offered by the Ifs, and seeking to determine whether the concept of teacher training in these institutes is also reflected in offer of postgraduate courses. It was found that the Federal Institutes are acting in the professional development of teachers in the context of the offer of strictu sensu postgraduate courses, as the majority of the courses belong to the area of Teaching, and 6 of the 7 courses investigated had, among their objectives, teacher training for basic education. Ninety-two percent of the graduates had undergraduate degrees and eighty-five percent worked in teaching.
