Abstract

Contextualization: The formation of the State is not limited to knowledge of its contemporary constitutive assumptions. Therefore, the central theme of this study concerns the archaeology of this formation, in order to understand Classical Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the Contemporary period. The analysis of the structure of each of these models of Political Order will allow for the verification of the interrelation between the past and the present, that is, of Political Order as a genre, taking into account the classical and medieval periods, and of the State as a species thereof.

Objectives: This article aims to discuss the formation of the State: from Classical Antiquity to the Contemporary period, demonstrating the constitution of the Political Orders that preceded the creation of the State, that is, those relating to Classical Antiquity and the Middle Ages, since the analysis of the history of politics, in its totality, is a necessary condition for understanding the archaeology of the State. Furthermore, as secondary objectives, it will discuss the difference, not only conceptual, between Political Order and State, as well as the Greek, Roman, and Medieval Political Orders, finally presenting the Political Order of Modernity – the State.

Method: A phenomenological-hermeneutic approach methodology will be used, along with historical and monographic procedural methods, and the technique of indirect documentation research.

Results: A first conclusion that emerges from this work concerns the fact that there is a historical connection between the characteristic assumptions of the Political Orders of Classical Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and Modernity.
