LA CRISIS HUMANITARIA EN MYANMAR: EL PAPEL DE FACEBOOK EN LA VIOLENCIA CONTRA LOS ROHINGYA

Contextualización: Este estudio aborda la historia de Myanmar, investigando la compleja dinámica entre los budistas birmanos y la minoría étnica musulmana Rohingya. El análisis se basa en el supuesto de que las tensiones étnicas históricamente presentes tuvieron raíces coloniales. Sin embargo, cabe señalar que Facebook ha sido destacado como una plataforma que contribuye a la escalada de hostilidades entre la comunidad budista y los Rohingya, exacerbando este conflicto étnico.
Objetivo: El objetivo principal de este texto es analizar los impactos del papel de Facebook en la sociedad birmana y su contribución a la supresión de la minoría étnica Rohingya.
Metodología: En cuanto a la metodología se utilizaron procedimientos bibliográficos y documentales, aplicados a la investigación teórica y cualitativa, siendo la información interpretada según el método deductivo.
Resultados: Se concluyó que, respecto al tema, las redes sociales actúan tanto para imponer como para violar los derechos humanos. Sin embargo, no cometen directamente abusos contra los derechos humanos, pero sí juegan un papel importante al (no) regular el tipo de discurso que aparece en su plataforma y con qué frecuencia aparece. Se ha demostrado que los impactos de la información en línea se ven fuera de línea a través del papel de Facebook como conducto para el discurso de odio y las noticias falsas en Myanmar.
